Abstract

The advancement of digital technology in the Society 5.0 era requires the education sector, including Islamic schools (madrasah), to undergo systemic transformation in order to deliver more efficient, transparent, and adaptive institutional management. Digital transformation in Islamic education management is a strategic response to these challenges, while also serving as an opportunity to strengthen Islamic values within institutional governance. This study aims to explore in depth how digital transformation is implemented in the management of Islamic education, particularly in madrasahs that have integrated digital technologies into managerial and instructional practices.This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Research sites were selected purposively, focusing on madrasahs that have adopted digital systems such as academic information systems, digital scheduling, and online administration. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification.The research findings indicate that digital transformation in madrasahs has had a tangible impact on improving work efficiency, accelerating educational services, and strengthening transparency in institutional governance. This process is marked not only by the use of technologies such as academic information systems and online administration but also by a shift in organizational culture toward a more modern and adaptive work pattern. The success of this transformation is strongly influenced by the role of the madrasah principal as a visionary leader who is capable of formulating strategies, establishing internal technology teams, and enhancing the digital literacy of all madrasah members.Despite facing challenges such as limited infrastructure and human resources, madrasahs are showing a progressive direction of change. Digital transformation in madrasahs is not merely about adopting technology; it also represents a reinforcement of Islamic values such as trustworthiness (amanah), honesty, and responsibility in institutional management. Consequently, a model of Islamic education management is being formedone that is contextual, value-based, and relevant to the demands of the Society 5.0 era.
