Abstract

School culture plays a significant role in shaping students’ moral character, particularly at the elementary level of Islamic education where habituation of attitudes and behaviors is emphasized. This study aims to examine a school culture based on greeting, addressing, and smiling as a means of strengthening students’ moral character at MI Al-Hasanah Palabuhanratu. The focus of the study includes the implementation of the culture, its contribution to students’ moral development, as well as challenges and sustainability strategies. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three key informants, two sessions of limited observation, and supporting documentation. The findings indicate that greeting, addressing, and smiling have become an integral part of daily interactions within the school and contribute to the development of politeness, respect, and social awareness among students. Despite several limitations, this school culture demonstrates strong potential as a contextual and sustainable strategy for moral education in Islamic elementary schools.
