Abstract

Islamic religious education (PAI) thought in Indonesia stands at a decisive historical crossroads. On one side, classical Islamic intellectual heritage holds immeasurable epistemological and pedagogical richness. On the other, contemporary civilization demands that PAI transcend the limits of doctrinal formalism and become a genuinely transformative force. This study aims to examine new directions of PAI thought reconstruction oriented toward civilization-building, analyze paradigmatic weaknesses that hinder PAI's civilizational role, and formulate a reconstruction framework that is theoretically robust and practically operational. This research employs a library research approach with critical content analysis of relevant primary and secondary sources, encompassing classical Islamic literature, contemporary Islamic education thinkers, and recent empirical findings. The stud's findings reveal that PAI reconstruction requires paradigm shifts across three dimensions: from transmissive to transformative orientation; from disciplinary fragmentation to holistic knowledge integration; from normative-doctrinal to contextual-emancipatory approaches.
