Abstract

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the appropriateness of educational policies during the New Order era and their implementation at SD Negeri Banjaragung 1. The research method used is descriptive qualitative and a literature study approach (library research). Research data were obtained from various secondary sources, including books, articles, scientific journals, and relevant educational policy documents. The focus of the research is on the Inpres Elementary School policy, the compulsory education program, curriculum changes (1968, 1975, 1984, and 1994), and the education system during the New Order era, as well as their impact on the implementation of education at SD Negeri Banjaragung 1. The research results show that education policies during the New Order period played a significant role in improving access to basic education in Indonesia. This is evident at SD Negeri Banjaragung 1, where the compulsory education program and the Inpres Elementary School Program successfully expanded the reach of education and increased student participation. However, from a quality perspective, education at that time still faced many challenges. This includes the dominance of rote learning, uneven distribution of educators, and a lack of educational facilities. Additionally, the centralized education system leads to a lack of flexibility in learning and insufficient space for student creativity and critical thinking. At SD Negeri Banjaragung 1, this condition is demonstrated by the use of conventional teaching methods and the limited availability of educational resources. Nevertheless, the New Order's education policy continues to support the equitable distribution of education in Indonesia. The result is that the education policy during the New Order era at SD Negeri Banjaragung 1 was quite effective in terms of equalizing access to education, but not yet optimal in terms of improving the overall quality of education.
