Abstract

This article examines the reconstruction of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) thought in the context of forming the insan kamil (perfect human being) relevant to the challenges of modernity. Islamic Religious Education is not merely oriented toward the transfer of religious knowledge, but must be capable of forming a complete human being who integrates spiritual, intellectual, moral, and social dimensions harmoniously. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and literature review, this study analyzes the concept of insan kamil from the perspective of classical thinkers such as Ibn 'Arabi, Al-Ghazali, and Ibn Khaldun, as well as its relevance in contemporary educational discourse. The findings reveal that the reconstruction of IRE needs to consider three main pillars: (1) strengthening tawhid as an epistemological foundation; (2) integrating emotional and spiritual intelligence; and (3) developing a curriculum based on humanist-Islamic values. This reconstruction is expected to produce students who are not only cognitively intelligent, but also possess moral integrity and high social awareness
