Abstract

Contemporary Islamic studies often remains trapped in a sharp dichotomy between static doctrinal normativity and dynamic social historicity. Dominant textualist-normative approaches tend to yield ahistorical readings that struggle to address the complexity of reality. This research aims to reconstruct the sociological approach as a vital methodological bridge to reconcile this epistemological tension. Employing a qualitative-interpretative library research method, this study examines sociology of religion literature to dissect the dialectic between text and context. The results reveal three key findings: (1) Sociology analytically distinguishes Ad-Din (absolute revelation) from Al-Tadayyun (human interpretation), safeguarding religion from the sacralization of history; (2) The Lived Islam lens appreciates diverse local expressions as rational adaptations rather than deviations; and (3) The concept of "Discursive Tradition" offers a synthesis for applying sacred texts within changing historical contexts. In conclusion, integrating sociology into Islamic studies is a necessity for producing interconnective, grounded, and relevant religious understanding for modern civilization.
